The XI SYMPOSIUM ON VIRTUAL AND AUGMENTED REALITY, SVR 2009, traditionally sponsored by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), is an international scientific forum for the exchange of experience and knowledge among researchers, professionals, practitioners, students and developers concerned with research and development of virtual environments, virtual, augmented and mixed reality systems. Stimulating, original and innovative research papers as well as case studies and applications in the general field of virtual and augmented reality should be submitted.Topics include, but are not limited to:

After a rigorous double-blind peer review process, the selected papers will be published in the conference proceedings and presented in the technical sections of the symposium. The acceptance rate is about 33% of the submitted papers. Please, observe the deadlines. Papers must be submitted electronically using the JEMS system https://submissoes.sbc.org.br To format you submission, you must follow the IEEE CS Press 2-column 8.5 x 11-inch Proceedings format (ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/8.5x11%20-%20Formatting%20files/) and should be written in English (preferentially) or Portuguese. Full papers must have a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 pages. Short papers must have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 pages. The authors' names and affiliations, as well as references that identify the authors should be removed from the submitted manuscript. The short papers must contain [SHORT PAPER] before the paper title, and must be submitted using the same track created for full papers. Important dates:

The Virtual and Augmented Reality Pre Symposium aims at joining, under the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), researchers, students, teachers, entrepreneurs and professionals interested in knowing the Virtual Reality (VR) area and its applications in different fields. A book will be edited and based on the texts for the presentations of the Pre Symposium. This event occurs in the first day of the Symposium. Suggestions for topics and probable structure of the book:

In the case of topic “VR and AR applied in other specific areas”, the contributions will be considered based on their quality, relevance and interest to the event community. The
text should be at most 20 pages, written in English or Portuguese, and
must follow the Pre Symposium template. The

Minicourses aim at promoting abilities specialization, as well as amplifying participants' education/research perspectives. Therefore, SVR 2009 minicourse proposals should be planned aiming at presenting to the community current subjects related to the areas of Virtual and Augmented Reality. Minicourses should be written in English or Portuguese. Authors may define their presentation layout. However, a full text must be submitted if the proposal is accepted. Accepted minicourses will be published as an E-book with ISBN in a special edition of SVR2009. The submissions must be sent by e-mail to Fátima Nunes (fatima.nunes AT usp DOT br) with copy to Liliane dos Santos Machado (liliane AT di DOT ufpb DOT br), according to the enclosed proposal template, and must contain [SVR-Minicourses] in the message's subject.
