EGO-EXO: A Cooperative Manipulation Technique with Automatic Viewpoint Control
This work proposes and evaluates the EGO-EXO technique for cooperative manipulation in a Collaborative Virtual Environment (CVE). From the premise that simultaneous control over navigation and manipulation by the user can make interaction complex, this technique places two users in asymmetric viewpoint positions during the cooperative manipulation of an object, allowing one of them to follow the object.

Usage of Tactile Feedback to Assist Cooperative Object Manipulations in Virtual Environments
This work consists of the study of techniques of robotics and virtual reality to develop a simulator that can be used in robotics schools, having an adequate visualization and a simple and intuitive way of interaction. For this, a 3D virtual environment for robotics was developed. Virtual reality resources have been incorporated to improve the visualization and to facilitate the user interaction with the environment.

Evaluating the Use of Virtual Reality on Professional Robotics Education
This work consists of the study of techniques of robotics and virtual reality to develop a simulator that can be used in robotics schools, having an adequate visualization and a simple and intuitive way of interaction. For this, a 3D virtual environment for robotics was developed. Virtual reality resources have been incorporated to improve the visualization and to facilitate the user interaction with the environment.

SculptAR: An Augmented Reality Interaction System
In this work, a 3D mobile interface to create sculptures in an augmented reality environment tracked by AR markers is presented. A raycasting technique was used to interact with the objects in the scene, as well as 2D and 3D interfaces to manipulate and modify the objects. The users can move, delete, paint and duplicate virtual objects using 6 DOFs techniques.

An Automatic Method For Identification Of Cystine Crystals In Urine Sediment
The analysis of urine sediments (Urinalysis) is a common procedure in diagnostic laboratories, and allows the identification of important diseases. This procedure is usually done by a professional, which performs a visual inspection of microscope slides containing urine, aiming to identify crystals, bacteria and other relevant elements, resulting in a laborious task.

A Software Architecture for Distributed AR Applications
The recent advances in hardware technology expanded the scope of Augmented Reality applications to mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones. Given their limited battery resources, distributed computing becomes a tempting approach to develop AR applications.
-
Collaborative Hybrid Virtual Environment
Supposing that, in a system operated by two users in different positions, it is easier for one of them to perform some operations, we developed a 3D User Interface (3DUI) that allows two users to interact together with an object, using the three modification operations (scale, rotate and translate) to reach a goal. This 3DUI aims to test which point of view is better for each operation, and how the degrees of freedom should be separated between the users.

Study for a Tactile Device for Visually Impaired People
The objective of this work is to study the conversion process from the depth information that is acquired from a real scene, into a tactile representation, through the use of a haptic display. The intent is to obtain useful knowledge to support the creation of tools targeted to assist visually impaired subjects, during their navigation tasks, more especially when the path have a significant number of large obstacles along its way.

Dental Simulator for Endodontic Access Cavity Preparation
This paper presents a virtual environment to simulate the opening process of a tooth’s crown. The environment tries to simulate a haptic interaction between a high-speed handpiece dental drill and a tooth during the dental material removal process. A low-cost device was created specifically for this application. The simulator is designed to train dental students, allowing the tasks to be repeated in controlled situations, while the students movements are monitored.
-
Remote Control for Unmanned Vehicle
One of the problems faced in the remote operation of robotic vehicles is the low situational awareness that the vehicle operator has regarding the situation of the vehicle and the environment where the vehicle is, depending on the type of control station which uses to operate the vehicle and the resources it offers.
-
Traffic Simulator
This project has developed a traffic simulator for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Using the simulator the patient drives a car facing many stressfull situations.
-
Truck Simulator
This project developed a system for truck drivers on the use of the techniques of economic driving. The simulation is performed using a desktop virtual environment with configuration of specific hardware and software to provide higher level of immersion to the user.
-
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment
This project is developing a study on how virtual environments can be used to treat patients that have developed Post-traumatic Stress Disorder after a bank robbery. Figure 4 shows and image of the virtual environment used for the treatment.
-
Gait Analysis
This project aims to evaluate the gait of a person running on a treadmill, with low cost hardware, this project is developing an image processing software to capture, processing and evaluate the position of legs and arms joints.
-
Pre-Surgical training system
Medical education has undergone major changes along the years. Until the mid 19th-century, academic medicine was based on the observation of facts; possible treatments were derived from this observation. Currently, the teaching of Medicine involves the continuous search for new methods to accommodate novel requirements. Parallel to this search, one of the biggest challenges for the teaching of Medicine is the evolution of technology.
-
Medical Emergency Tranning
The area of Medical Qualification in Life Support training is being constantly improved. However, many problems still have to be faced in the training sessions. During these sessions the students or physicians can repetitively practice patient care procedures in simulated scenarios using anatomical manikins, especially designed for this type of training.
-
Magnetic resonance imaging segmentation of hippocampus using atlas selection by meta-information
Hippocampus segmentation in magnetic resonance imaging is an important procedure in many clinical situations, such as monitoring changes in patients with Alzheimer's disease. However, the manual delineation of this structure, in three-dimensional images, is a laborious task and prone to subjective interpretation of the health professional.
